Coffee

Origine’s focus is on providing high value-added end products, processed through high-technology agroindustries. This characterizes the way in which the Group engages in international trade, and runs counter to the trend of expanded commodity exports, which generate fewer benefits for Brazil and for all participants in the production chain. Notwithstanding recent increases in production and export of agricultural and mining commodities, such products fail to generate jobs and income on a sufficient scale to fulfill Brazil’s needs.

Brazil is the world’s largest producer and exporter of coffee and its second largest consumer. There are roughly 287,000 coffee farmers, spread throughout approximately 1,900 Brazilian municipalities, located in 15 states, namely: Acre, Bahia, Ceará, Espírito Santo, Goiás, Distrito Federal, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Pará, Paraná, Pernambuco, Rio de Janeiro, Rondônia and São Paulo.

Origine has entered the production chain through partnerships with producers and is deploying innovative production and management methodologies, while paying farmers premium prices.

The Group’s industrial coffee operations are carried out by Sobésa. A high-performance company with over 50 years of tradition in this market, Sobésa Café processes Arábia, Santés and Sobésa coffees, all of which have a long tradition and deep penetration in the domestic market.

The coffees packed by Sobésa are destined for export markets, most notably the United States, and the company has product lines totally attuned to the tastes of American consumers, and those of other international markets.

Origine Group companies that act in this in this segment are: Origine S.A – for primary production of Coffee beans; Sobésa – for industrial processing of coffees; Origine Brazil – for strategic, tactical and operational planning, as well as direct supervision and monitoring of all productive activities; and Origine International – for the marketing of coffee in international markets.
